History Comes to Life

Romania’s Transylvania region is a dream for history and culture lovers. You can walk through the grand halls of Peleș Castle, known for its intricate woodwork and stained glass, and explore Bran Castle, famous for its connection to the Dracula legend. The medieval towns of Brașov and Sibiu transport you back in time with their cobblestone streets, Gothic cathedrals, and well-preserved fortifications.

Then there are myriad Saxon villages, where some inhabitants still speak an old form of German, dating back to the 12th century. This tour have you stay in a guesthouse in Moieciu, where you have the chance to engage with the local people and partake in a delicious home cooked meal.

Tracing Centuries of European History

This journey takes you through centuries of history, from the Roman Empire to the Ottoman and communist eras. In Serbia, visit the ancient ruins of Viminacium and the haunting Skull Tower of Niš, which tells a story of resistance against Ottoman rule. Belgrade, once the capital of Yugoslavia, has a layered history that spans empires, wars, and revolutions. In Bulgaria, the stunning Rila Monastery showcases the region’s artistic and religious heritage, while the Soviet Army Monument in Sofia offers insight into the country's more recent past.

Scenic Landscapes and Natural Wonders

The natural beauty of this region is just as compelling as its history. The Carpathian Mountains in Romania are home to charming villages with forested hills and barren peaks as breathtaking backdrops. In Serbia, you’ll cruise through the dramatic Iron Gates Gorge on the Danube River, where the face of King Decebalus is carved into the cliffs. Bulgaria’s landscapes are equally striking, from the eerie rock formations of Devil’s Town to the rolling fields of the Rose Valley.

Relaxation on the Black Sea Coast

The journey ends along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, where history and relaxation come together. In Varna, you’ll find ancient Roman ruins and a lively seaside atmosphere. A stay in the picturesque town of Balchik offers time to explore the former summer palace of Queen Marie of Romania and stroll through lush botanical gardens. With golden beaches and the dramatic cliffs of Kaliakra Fortress, this part of the trip is the perfect way to unwind.
