Explore the Amazon River in Brazil from its mouth in Belem to its midway point near Manaus on this 2-week adventure holiday in South America. This is your chance to discover what life along this river is as you visit local communities, sleep on deck in a hammock on a passenger ferry and roam around the white sand beaches that mark the Amazon's islands.
After a walking tour of Belem we take a boat to Marajo island in the Amazon River Delta, an island that is bigger than the Netherlands. We stay in a local inn overlooking the river and discover the wildlife that calls the island home, such as capybara, monkeys, and sloth.
Next we journey for two nights by river boat to Monte Alegre, sailing through narrow waterways and the main Amazon channel and past local communities, as we observe local life and mingle with fellow travellers.
Vale do Paraiso is exactly that - Paradise Valley where hikes lead to waterfalls which are great for swimming. Then, by public speedboat, we travel to laid-back Alter do Chao, best known for its beautiful white-sandy beach and clear waters. Explorations nearby have you visit primary rain forest and places like the Enchanted Forest.
Our final boat journey will take us for three nights along the Rio Negro, sleeping in hammocks on deck in true local style. Enjoy a whole range of excursions, including jungle hikes, visiting local communities, discovering the riverine archipelago of Anavilhanas with its abundant wildlife, including caimans and dolphins.
Finally, we disembark in Manaus, before flying to Rio de Janeiro where our trip ends.
