Morocco unfolds slowly and richly on this family journey, beginning in Casablanca where the Atlantic laps the Corniche and the impressive Hassan II Mosque stands sentinel over the city. From there, the road leads to Fes, where donkeys navigate narrow alleyways and the air is thick with the scent of spices. With a local guide, you explore the maze-like medina, discovering dye pits, tanneries, and historic madrasas that reveal the city’s enduring spirit. Travelling south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, you pass pine forests and valleys before arriving in Midelt for a home-cooked lunch in a Berber village. The desert beckons, and as the sun sets over the Erg Chebbi dunes, you ride camels to a Sahara camp where stars fill the night sky. In Todra Gorge, you walk through towering cliffs, visit local families, and relax in the peace of the valley. Continuing through mountain passes, you reach Ait Benhaddou, where you join a women’s cooperative to prepare Moroccan pancakes and explore the historic kasbah. Finally, in Marrakech, vibrant souks, rooftop cafés, and the rhythms of Djemaa el-Fna welcome you. Along the way, you learn about the Amal Foundation, which supports Moroccan women through culinary training, with your visit helping to make a lasting impact.

Morocco

We went on the Morocco Family Holiday Comfort tour in March starting in Casablanca and ending in Marrakech. We were the only family (2 adults, 2 teens) on the trip, during Ramadan, and it was a fantastic experience that we could never have done in our own. We visited UNESCO sites, and had opportunities to meet local families in their homes, partaking of delicious home cooked foods, Our tour leader was very knowledgeable about local and regional history, culture and customs. We really appreciated that Intrepid made special effort to support local businesses and gender equality.
Our tour guide, Redouan, was truly exceptional. There was a lot to see over the 9 days, with many interesting and well timed stops. Redouan, especially, made the trip a pleasure for us. His organization of the trip was seamless and efficient. He was incredibly knowledgeable and gave thoughtful responses to all of our questions, explaining anything from ancient history to current customs. He gave clear instructions for our activities, where and when to meet and suggested extra activities for us to do on our own, sending us links and sharing directions. We had lunch and tea with local families and had delicious home-made foods. This was definitely a highlight of the trip. Redouan made these visits easy and comfortable, translating and helping us feel welcome. Redouan was also very careful about my nut allergy, locating restaurants for us during Ramadan and calling ahead to ensure they would not serve nuts. Before the trip I was very concerned about being able to eat while in Morocco due to the nut allergy, but I felt very well cared for with Redouan looking out for me at each meal. When we stopped in a spice store and they offered tea, he went out of his way to buy me pastries from the market that were nut-free. He was always available to us and answered questions late into the evening. When one of my daughters became sick during the trip, he helped smooth the way to getting any medical care she needed and he kept in touch with us after the trip to check on how she was doing. Not only did he show great service, but also great warmth and kindness! He made our trip a special memory and we are very grateful that he was our guide.
Our driver Mustafa was kind and considerate and we felt very safe with him, especially driving through busy Casablana and Marrakech streets. He spoke English well and shared details about his family and work experiences. He definitely helped make the trip memorable.
